Mamata warns against infiltration of Maoists

Kolkata, Aug 8 - Observing that rebel guerrillas were being brought in the state from the neighbouring Orissa and Jharkhand, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Wednesday warned the Maoists that any kind of violence will not be tolerated.

"Maoists are being brought into the state from Orissa and Jharkhand. They are trying to regroup. But I must make it clear that any kind of violence will not be tolerated. We will not spare those who hand guns to innocent villagers," said Banerjee, during her fifth visit to Junglemahal - the rebel affected areas of the state.

Banerjee also warned the people against falling to the promises of development by the rebels.

"They (Maoists) say they are fighting for development, but I want to ask have they done any development. I do not see any development done by them. They are merely words. Do not fall for them. It is the government which has done all the development that you see," said Banerjee, while addressing the people from the Maoist heartland.

With their top gun Kishenji alias Koteshwar Rao having already fallen to the bullets of the security forces and some other influential leaders either arrested or laid down arms, the rebel movement in the state is on the back foot, although there are reports of them trying to regroup, sources say.
