The story is set in 1990's backdrop. Mithuna (Lavanya) is a simple college going girl and Gautam (Rahul Ravindran), a rich guy yet living by his own working as a guitarist, falls for Mithuna after seeing her at first sight. Mithuna meets with an accident and Gautham arranges for all her surgeries and later, when she gets her consciousness, she asks about Surya (Naveen Chandra) with whom she is in love already. Mithuna will be informed about Surya's death and meanwhile, Gautham tries to get closer to her and expresses his feelings. When she realizes his love there is another twist in the story. What is that twist?? How does Mithuna's life get affected forms the rest.
Lavanya is beautiful, expressive and has great talent. Chinamayee has dubbed for her and it was perfect. She is sure to bag some good projects in Tollywood with her convincing performance in Andala Rakshasi.
Naveen is a good performer and right fit for the role. His rugged and artistic look suited him and his role was quite crucial in the movie. His characterization is well-etched.
Rahul Ravindran possesses good looks but he needs to work on his dialogue delivery. He is loud in his dialogues which did not work.
CVL Narasimha Rao and Pragathi were good, while others made their presence felt.
Andala Rakshasi begins with slow pace and the actual story only takes off in the latter half while the first half just highlights the main plot. Second half of the film maintains good pace. The film reminds you of Mani Ratnam's Mounaragam film and despite being a straight Telugu film it gives you the feel of Tamil movies. While Lavanya's performance holds your interest, the hero's performance looks like screaming and causes irritation. Andala Rakshasi fails to keep you hooked with its dull screenplay. It's only from interval bang, the film picks up but then except for few scenes, it looks like lagging and few emotional scenes were not convincing enough. The climax is yet again tragedic for which its hard for Telugu audiences to digest.Technically brilliant but slow narration and boring first half fails to hold your interest!!!
